At A Glance
Dorm Room Dreamz L3C. (DRDz) is a low-profit limited liability company whose goal is to prepare students who have experienced homelessness for college and beyond.
Challenge
Nationwide, approximately 1.5 million students experiencing homelessness attend public
schools (US Department of Education, 2021). College access and success among homeless
students are not widely explored. Students who experience homelessness (SEH) pathways
to college are not the same as their housed peers. Research has found that among young
adults ages 18–25, 4-year college enrollment was four times higher for youth without
experiences of homelessness. For college students, the number is growing as well, a survey
found that 56% of respondents were housing insecure in the previous year, 17% were
homeless, and nearly half of community college students are housing and food insecure.
Soultion
At Dorm Room Dreamz L3C, some students need a place to have Dreamz!
Housing hardships, such as evictions and homelessness, impact students' learning capabilities and make it difficult for them to stay enrolled. Just like Academic and Financial Counselors, Housing Counselors are needed as well. They are professionals who can guide students through the difficult housing process and understand their educational needs and barriers. Continue to see our impact.
